The South Georgia Museum in Grytviken is based in the villa that was once lived in by the whaling station manager. Set up by the biologist Nigel Bonner, it originally opened in 1991 as a whaling and sealing museum, exhibiting documents and artefacts from those periods. However, the museum has expanded and now also has displays on discovery and exploration, natural history, administration and military conflict.
